Imark for MAC
Free, open-source Markdown reader for Mac with live reload, Quick Look previews and comments stored inside the .md file itself.
Imark Overview
Imark is a native Markdown reader for macOS. Double-click a .md file and it opens rendered, reloads itself while you edit in another program, and previews in the Finder when you press the space bar. It opens in reading mode because reading is what it is for, and a switch in the toolbar turns the page into a plain editor for the file you already have open, with line numbers, Markdown in colour and a bar beside every changed line.
What sets Imark apart is its comments. Select a phrase, write a note, and the note is saved inside the document as an HTML comment, so it travels with the file when it is emailed, committed or opened in another app. Imark also ships a review skill for Claude Code and Codex, so a coding agent can open a document for you to read and wait for your notes. If you only want to read, the comment controls can be hidden in Settings. Documents render with every request blocked, and remote images are refused on purpose; the app's only network use is checking for and downloading its own updates, which you can turn off.
Imark is made by Miguel Silva and is free and open source under the MIT License. The current release, 0.6.9, is still before version 1 and adds a Copy Path command. It needs macOS 14 or later, and the disk image is signed and notarized, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning. It is a reader first, and for bigger edits it offers to send the file to an editor such as Cursor, VS Code, Zed or Sublime.
Key Features
Imark makes local Markdown files pleasant to read and easy to comment on.
- Comments in the file: notes are stored in the document as HTML comments.
- Live reload: saving in your editor updates the view and keeps your scroll position.
- Quick Look: the space bar in the Finder shows the rendered document.
- Optional editing: one toolbar switch, line numbers, and Command-S to save.
- Tickable task lists: pressing a box saves the tick to the .md file.
- Outline: foldable headings in the sidebar and a rail along the page edge.
- GitHub-flavoured Markdown: tables, footnotes, Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX maths.
- Wiki-links and tabs: [[note]] links open in the window, with back and forward history.
What’s New in Version 0.6.9
Imark 0.6.9 adds a quick way to copy a file's path.
- File > Copy Path (Option-Command-C, the same key as in the Finder) puts the full path on the clipboard, ready to paste into a terminal or a chat with your agent.
- Copy Path is also in the toolbar's Open in menu, next to Reveal in Finder.

MarkEditMarkEdit is a free, lightweight Markdown editor for Mac. It describes itself as TextEdit for Markdown: it opens instantly, edits plain .md files without importing them into a library, and stays out of your way with a clean, native interface. CluxoWhen you share your screen or record a tutorial, the mouse pointer is easy to lose. Cluxo is a small menu bar app that puts a colored ring around the cursor and shows every click, drag and scroll, so viewers always know where to look. It also has a spotlight that dims everything except the area around the pointer, a live magnifier, an on-screen keystroke display and a drawing mode for marking up the screen while you talk.Productivity
Time to LeaveTime to Leave is a desktop app for keeping track of your working time, laid out much like a time-card system. You log the time you started work, and the app works out when you should leave, taking into account the time you spent on breaks such as lunch, then notifies you when that moment comes. It needs no database setup: you install it and start punching in. You can log your day in a Day view or a whole Month view, and see your running balance of hours.Productivity
ColuracetamColuracetam is a Markdown reader and editor for Mac that shows the same rendered preview everywhere. Press the spacebar on a .md file in Finder and Quick Look shows it rendered in color, and Finder shows generated thumbnails of your Markdown files. Open a file in the app and you get a live split: plain monospace source on one side and the rendered page on the other, with text selection and search that work across the whole rendered document.Productivity
MassReplaceItMassReplaceIt is a find and replace utility for many files at once. You choose the files or folders, type what to look for and what to put in its place, and MassReplaceIt searches either the file contents or the file names, such as changing the extension of hundreds of files in one go. Before anything is written you can preview the changes, and each search gives detailed results. Searches can be saved and used again, filters leave out files you do not want touched, and regular expressions handle patterns that plain text cannot.Productivity
TypeCueTypeCue takes the typing out of screen recordings, tutorials, webinars and live presentations. You write your demo as an ordered list of text blocks. During the take, each press of a global hotkey (Control-Option-X by default) types the next block into whatever field has focus, as real keystrokes at a human pace, with no typos and the same result on every take. Press the hotkey again while it types to stop it.Productivity
